Case Study 1
Irrigation and sewer monitoring device

Our client, a leader in measuring and control equipment came to us for advice on the redesign and ensuing production of an existing product. During the briefing it became clear that an opportunity existed to develop a new product which could be aligned with two existing products. The synergistic effect of the combined equipment would provide considerable benefits for their customers
.

Tiller + Tiller’s first task was to evaluate the potential to manufacture the existing product and then to analyse the costs, problems which might be encountered in sourcing supply, methods of assembly and so on. From this overall consideration, a comprehensive solution was outlined.

The final intrinsically safe product, made of high-density polyethylene, was able to resist the harsh environment in which it would be required to perform.

Measuring and control equipment is usually produced in low volumes but the new design was so successful that the sales to date have been 300% over expectation.

The monitoring device was subsequently awarded the Australian Design Mark and selected by the Japanese Design Council to be exhibited in Tokyo in 2000.
