Study 2 A new computer Our client wanted a new, specifically designed, PC to process high-volume transactions at retail points of sale worldwide. This required dedicated computer hardware (not available at the time) as a conduit for their proprietary niche technology. ![]() An integral part of the brief was that the new product would reflect the clients image of being an imaginative and technically advanced corporation. It was also specified that the new computer should incorporate the latest technological advances and blend just as easily into the home as the office or sales counter. ![]() Probably more industrial design hours are spent on personal computers than on most other business equipment and T + T took the brief as a personal challenge. The final radical design, which dispensed with the traditional fan cooling system (thereby removing all noise) was considered to be a brilliant solution to the brief. ![]() Three years on, the computer still stands out as a ground-breaking design. |
